Rev. Peter Greiner

As Jesus was travelling from town to town and village to village He was asked a question, ‘Are only a few people going to be saved? Why the question was asked we are not told. Perhaps the disciples had seen how few had responded to the gospel as Jesus preached. May be the disciples had grandiose visions of a mighty kingdom along the lines of the Roman Empire.

Whatever the reason for the numbers, the disciples were perplexed by Jesus’ teaching that he was ushering in a kingdom. A kingdom that will know no bounds. What do we mean by saved?

Saved from what? How are we saved? Jesus did not answer the question he was asked. Instead Jesus responded by saying to them make every effort to enter through the narrow door. Implying they were to make every effort to enter through the door to receive eternal life that awaits one on the other side of the door.
