Prospectus September 2024

September 2024

Wyndham Presbyterian Church is a Pastoral Charge of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria. Rev Peter Greiner, our pastor since 2013, has notified his intention to retire in February 2025. We are now seeking the man God has raised up to be our next pastor.

OUR CONGREGATION

Our purpose is to glorify God by leading people to Jesus Christ and enabling Christians to grow in maturity in Christ.

We are a modern Presbyterian Church standing in the heritage of the Reformation and treasuring the timeless truths of the Gospel. We are a family church with ministries that cater for children, youth, men and women, as well as focussed prayer and Bible study groups. Christian fellowship is valued in our church. We are a growing church reaching the hurting and lost in our community. We seek to uphold the Bible as our ultimate authority.

OUR PARISH

Our church’s parish is within Wyndham City – the fastest growing Local Government Area in Australia. Wyndham is the outer south-west of the Melbourne metropolitan area, midway between Geelong and Melbourne. It’s central suburb, Werribee, is located 31 km from Melbourne CBD, 47 km from Geelong CBD and 73 km from Torquay surf coast beach. The 2021 census recorded Wyndham’s population as approximately 290,000 residents made up of many nationalities. It’s grown a lot since then, and has a younger than average demographic.

Wyndham is home to a majority of middle income families. This includes couples who chose the area many years ago to raise their families and continue to call Wyndham home. In more recent years Wyndham has continued to expand and see increases in immigrant families from across the globe including Africa, Asia, the Indian subcontinent and Middle East.

LOCAL INFRASTRUCTURE AND SERVICES

Public transport: Wyndham is serviced by both metropolitan and country trains, as well as a local bus service. Melbourne Airport is about a 40-minute drive from Werribee, and Avalon Airport is about 25 minutes away.

Schools: Wyndham has many State schools and three independent Christian schools.

Hospitals: There is a major public general hospital – Werribee Mercy Hospital – as well as St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Werribee.

Retail: Shopping precincts abound. Larger commercial retailers and suppliers, supermarkets, cafes/restaurants/eateries are all in close proximity.

Housing: The average price of a house with garage in Wyndham is around $600,000.

OUR CHURCH PREMISES

We own our own premises at 116-118 Black Forest Road Wyndham Vale. Our church building and facilities are modern, dating from the 1990’s and our church sanctuary can seat up to 110. Our church land has ample parking.

OUR WORSHIP AND ACTIVITIES

A welcoming church: Like our local community, we are drawn from many nations. We welcome and encourage newcomers and visitors to worship, socialise and grow in their knowledge and understanding of the Gospel.

Worship services: We meet for worship at 10 am on Sundays. We share a monthly communion followed by a congregational lunch. Currently, our usual practice is for one person to lead worship and the Minister to preach. Our music/worship team operates on a bi-monthly roster. Our current music menu is typically a mixture of classic hymns and contemporary praise songs.

Governance and oversight: We have an active Session and an active Board of Management. We uphold and implement PCV Safe Church policies as a matter of primary importance.

Ministries:

  • Four Bible study groups meet weekly either at the church or in homes.
  • Our Sunday school caters for primary school children and has two Sunday school teachers.
  • Our youth group is combined with our neighbouring Point Cook congregation and is led by a young married couple from Point Cook.
  • A men’s prayer group meeting regularly.
  • Our current minister has provided generous pastoral care, including nursing home, hospital and home visits.
