“What comes after the resurrection? Or more to the point, what comes after Easter Sunday”? We have looked at Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. What is next after the resurrection? Some might say the ascending of Jesus to be seated with the Father on the throne. Others might say the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
As we follow Matthew’s gospel account through what comes next is the task of making disciples. I will be the first to admit that I cannot make any disciples. And yet Jesus gives us the task of making disciples. The most famous of the instructions we are given is summarised in the short phrase, “Go and make disciples.” It is an easy enough instruction to recite but how easy is it to put into action?
The little word “Go” is only two letters but it packs a whole lot of meaning into those two letters. The word has the meaning of, “and as you are going make disciples”. So as you are going about your daily routine whether that be at home or at work or at school or on the sporting ground or down at the gym, as you are going about whatever your daily routine then you are to make disciples of the ones God draws across your path. For some that might mean witnessing to your neighbour or work colleague or a family member or selling up and moving to another nation to make disciples. What opportunities has God given you to make disciples?
