The transfiguration! What are we to make of this event? It appears strange to us and also to the three disciples. What is it about? We can draw three things from this event. First, it tells us the kingdom of God is near. Make no mistake, the kingdom is being ushered in. Heed Jesus’ words. If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him, when he comes in his glory. Well, the Son of Man has come in all his glory. What is an appropriate response to him?

Second, the transfiguration confirms that Jesus is the Son of Man. A voice came from the cloud, saying, This is my Son, whom I have chosen, listen to him. Are we listening to the Son of God through His Word.

And, third, the transfiguration conforms what is to come for the Christian. We gain a glimpse or snapshot of heaven. As Jesus was praying, the appearance of his face changed and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.

When Moses spent time with God, either on the mountain or in the holy of holies, his face shone.

The transfiguration confirms the coming kingdom of God, confirms Jesus is the Son of God, confirms what the Christian has to look forward to in glory. Are you prepared yourself, for the glory to come?
